Health Department seeks volunteers to test septic products

The Cayuga County Health Department is looking for volunteers to test some new phosphorus removal products on their property. Excessive phosphorus increases the development of harmful algal blooms, an issue that has plagued many Cayuga County lakes in recent years.
There are two products that look promising in the potential to remove phosphorus from septic systems. The Health Department has funding to install and evaluate the effectiveness of these products. If you would be interested in participating in this pilot program, please contact Eileen O'Connor at the Cayuga County Health Department at eoconnor@cayugacounty.us or 315-253-1405. There is no cost to the property owner to participate.
