Owasco Big Tree Project has begun, please read below

Owasco Avenues Big Tree Conservation Project begins today.

Our contractor, Dan Lennox Tree Service, LLC, will work on removing Sugar maple trees on Havens Avenue.  Trees are marked with dots of green and pink paint.

A single pink dot indicates a complete removal of the tree, followed by stump grinding, reseeding, and replacement with a new tree.

Trees marked with both green and pink paint are to be pruned.  Our goal is to save those trees for up to a quarter century longer.

However, two of the trees marked for pruning did not make it through last winter very well and have been further impacted by this summer's heat; these will have to be removed.

Many trees along the Avenues have been marked by NYSEG with a single dot of orange paint.

One of the conditions of this NYS Department of Environmental Conservation grant is that we replace trees we remove.  I am happy to work with property owners to select the species and variety of trees we'll plant to replace the removed tree.  Tree planting will begin this November, with the help of Scouts from Troop 21.
